Toonz and Nuttery team up for Super Brakan & Ice Bella

India’s Toonz Media Group is partnering with Swedish/Canadian prodco Nuttery Entertainment on the upcoming CG-animated series Super Brakan & Ice Bella: Defenders of Imagination

Under the deal, the companies will co-produce and co-distribute the 52 x 11-minute comedy, which is based on the Håkan Bråkan IP.

Aimed at the six to nine set, the series follows Håkan and his little sister, Bella, as they use their imaginations to become superheroes who seek fun-filled ways to navigate the boring world of grown-ups.

Swedish authors Sören Olsson and Anders Jacobsson created the Håkan character as a part of their Sune kidlit series. The book series now spans more than 30 titles published since 1984.

The IP is a familiar well for screen adaptations, with five series and nine movies based on it so far. This includes last year’s live-action flick Håkan Bråkan, produced by Swedish prodco Unlimited Stories.

Nuttery has been developing Super Brakan & Ice Bella since 2021, and presented the series at Cartoon Forum last year, where it ranked among the top five most-attended pitches.

Olsson and Jacobsson are attached to the animated series as story supervisors alongside Stockholm-based audiobook publisher Storytel, which will release new audiobooks based on the IP, according to a release.
