2D Animation

2D Animation

The type of animation used for a project depends on its goals. As far as 2D animation goes, it can be used to create movement in a two-dimensional space. The illusion of movement can be done the traditional way by sequencing together of precise handmade drawings. Alternatively, digital tools can also be applied by the animator to make the production process faster and more efficient. 2D animation is the most prevalent form of animation employed on the internet to tell stories with the help of 2D flat people and scenery. Its popularly used in cartoons, video advertising, explainer videos, etc.

3D Animation

3D Animation

3D animation is the process by which 3D animators create illustrations to fit a particular story and then use digital technology to give them life and generate the illusion of movement with three-dimensional animation. Animators use 3D animation programs to create 3D movies, animation videos, video effects, VFX, motion graphics, etc. The main difference between 2D and 3D animation is that images are hand-drawn in 2D while in 3D animation they are computer-generated. Animators use popular 3D animation tools and programs such as Autodesk 3Ds Max, Autodesk Maya, Cinema 4Brush, etc., to give a three-dimensional effect to objects and scenery.

Visual Effects

Visual Effects

Also known as VFX, visual effects is a much-sought-after skill in the creative industry and its application goes much beyond that of 3D animation. Visual Effects artists are very much in demand as almost every film or TV production requires VFX now. On a basic level, visual effects is the process by which images are altered, created or enhanced using computers for live action clips; these actions aren’t done while live-filming as they could be impossible, costly or dangerous. So, with VFX, live-action footage is integrated with computer generated imagery (CGI) during the post-production stage, to create realistic looking scenes that are otherwise impossible to film.

Live Action

Live Action

Live action or live-action is a form of cinematography or videography that seamlessly combines live action filmmaking with animation. Movies or videos that have both live action as well as computer-generated action, also have fictional figures or characters. They are represented or characterized by cast members through a complex process of motion capture which is then made into an animated model by animators. Other complicated techniques could include use of aerial image animation cameras or optical printers to enable more accurate positioning and realistic interaction of real actors and fictional characters. They can be used in movies, video games or visual media.

Stop Motion

Stop Motion

Stop motion is a fairly slow film making technique in which objects are moved physically in small increments and captured on frame. It’s estimated that around 12 such frames make up about 1 second of a video clip. When each frame is played sequentially, it creates the impression of independent movement of an object. Some stop motion animation techniques include Claymation (moving clay objects), Pixilation (moving or animating people), Cutout motion (moving paper/2D material), Puppet animation (moving puppets), silhouette animation (backlighting cutouts), etc. The type of object used to create stop motion animation forms the key difference amongst these techniques.

Gaming

Gaming

Gaming and animation are a popular career choice with young people as it offers a lot of opportunities. Gaming animators are specialized multimedia artists and animators who specialize in creating video games, and are responsible for the portrayal of basic movement and behavioral changes in the characters. Gaming animation is all about the combination of art and technology to animate characters and objects in video games. With fast-evolving technologies, it’s essential to have both artistic talents as well as knowledge of computers and their applications. A combination is required for creating well-animated interactive images and environments in the rapidly-changing field of video games.
